I had wanted to do something special for my one hundredth post on this here blog. At first, I thought "ice cream!" but then it melts amd makes a mess all over the keyboard... Then, I saw that the Illustration Friday prompt this week is for - CAKE! Perfect - I LOVE CAKE!! Who doesn't love cake? Well, I suppose there's probably someone out there - but most people I know will always find room for a bite of cake to celebrate an occasion. Even saints (angel food) and sinners (devil's food) have their own version (I have toyed with the idea of making a 2-layer cake with angel food on top and devil's food on the bottom, but decided that was a little too quirky even for my family - and they've suffered through many of my whimsies).
Cake, of any variety, is one of my Favorite Things - I don't think I've met a cake yet that I didn't like (well, there've been a couple of dry ones - but with a little milk or tea, we got along just fine).
Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting; pineapple upside-down cake; bundt cake with royal icing; spice cake with buttercream frosting; lemon cake; red velvet cake; yellow cake; white cake; marble cake; chocolate cherry; chocolate fudge; German chocolate; chocolate chocolate! Birthday cake, wedding cake, cupcakes! I love 'em all.
To keep up with my 101 self-portraits challenge, I decided I could include my hand cutting the cake.
Which is also a little inside joke for my family - I have been known to mangle cakes with a single slice. People do not ask me to help serve their wedding cakes (although my family thinks it's funny to have me cut the birthday cakes - they have a twisted sense of humor). They did get a little nervous earlier, though, when they saw me with the cake knife in my hand (trying to get a visual for the drawing), and there was no cake in sight...that's what they get for making fun of my cake-cutting all these years - mwah-ha-ha-ha!
I love trying to decorate cakes; but frosting's just not my medium. My roses tend to droop and my little scallop borders tend to waver around drunkenly. I guess I just need more practice - but then I hate to waste food; so I'd have to eat all those mistakes, and we all know where that would end up...I already have enough padding, thank you.
Anyway, since I hoped you'd come by, I baked you a cake! It's a bit lop-sided; my homemade ones usually are. But best of all, it's fat-free! And it's a magical Mary Poppins-fairytale cake - it can be any flavor you'd like - pick your favorite!
Oh, um, sorry - I knew I forgot something - got milk?
