Casting Off a Cold Spell
Or how to amuse yourself while you're getting well, by making believe it's not just some scientifically-proven medicine-y thing you've been plagued with, but that it's a spell cast by a wicked hag - Grismerelda -- who gave you the evil eye while you were innocently buying some apples in the market to feed your dwarves - er, family...
First, it helps to have a lovely niece who sends you an early birthday present - a fairytale for grown-ups is just the cure - this is your spellbook inspiration. If you don't have a niece handy, or your birthday isn't any time soon, don't despair - if you have a silver coin or twelve, you might use your magic looking glass to find a friendly Amazon to send you a spellbook too. Note: Breaking off one earpiece from your dollar bin reading glasses is completely optional here, and in fact, isn't really recommended. However, if this happens to you along the way, they do end up making a handy bookmark.
Next, set the atmosphere. Candlelight adds its own bit of magic.
Fortify yourself for the task with a magic potion. Catch a spoonful of falling stars - actually a whole bowlful is best. A carrot meteorite or two will help speed the healing process. Add seven crackers in a circle. Seven is a magical number in fairytales and spells and such - seven dwarfs, seven dancing princesses, seven brides for seven brothers...ok, so that last one isn't exactly a tale of magic, but whatever - if you're going to add crackers, you might as well add seven of them. Can't hurt, might help.
While reading the spellbook, take frequent breaks to nap and/or snack. I recommend seven juicy blackberries (see note on the number 7, above) and a single golden clementine (though you can always add more of the enchanted Vitamin C).
Climb the tree of life to find a honey bear - beseech his aid in sweetening your tea and soothing your throaty cough. Honey bears are widely known for their magical helpfulness in such tasks. Stir your tea with a silver spoon.
Enlisting the aid of the gypsies can be helpful too.
If the cold spell proves too powerful to be easily broken, go to the sofa of supreme slumber - take two afghans - and blog me in the morning...
oh, and er, consult your doctor...
Just checking in - hope all of you are well~
Oh I love his books. The first one we read was Wicked. We were hooked after that. Hope you feel better soon. Love Hugs Blessings and Healing thoughts

I LOVE the way you write and spin a tale of the old winter cold! Take care and do follow your own instructions my dear!
And here, here's a lovely little hanky to make it seem a bit more posh to blow ones nose.
XOXOXOXO

Wasn't it a carrot meteorite that killed the dinosaurs? Or was it a cabbage?
I mean: Get well soon!

Oh. Lovely post. The wind is blowing in here and makeing the trees howl and the sky is gray and I need to build a fire because my toes are cold and so is my nose. And everything was all better after I stayed to read *your* magic, which made me laugh and warmed my heart. Thanks!

I was wondering where you disappeared to - so sorry you've been ill, but you write about it quite delightfully! Is that a Fiesta piece with the flamenco dancer? I have a couple of them in lighter colors. As for fairy tales for grownups - absolutely essential! xoxox
