A sneak peek from the dress rehearsal of The Wizard of Oz, at the Redlands Bowl.
If you'd like to go somewhere over the rainbow to escape the summer heat - just follow the yellow brick road down to the Redlands Bowl, this Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening, July 24 -26, 2008, when the local production of "Wizard of Oz,' starts at 8:15 p.m.
However, keep in mind, the annual musical production is one of the nost popular events at the Bowl, so come early for best seating (try for at least half an hour before - even earlier if you can!) - for either the stadium seating or for BYOB - 'bring your own blanket,' for the small, grassy areas.
Though I've enjoyed all of the produtions I've seen at the Bowl over the years, I was particularly impressed by this year's dress rehearsal on Tuesday night. The costuming and staging are exceptional for a local production of this size. It has all that you've come to expect from having seen the iconic movie version - plus some fun musical numbers that you didn't get to see in the movie. The kids I viewed it with, definitely enjoyed it -- we liked it so much, we're going back again...
Cost: Whatever you can afford - donation bowls are passed at the beginning of the show. Though there isn't an admission charge - producing the play does cost money for costuming, lights and so much more - so please consider giving as generously as you can afford.
