There's still time left in the year, if you're considering donating to charity to take advantage of income tax breaks - why not donate to a locally-based organization? Here are a couple in support of local arts that you might consider:
ARC School of Hope is a day program for developmentally disabled adults, that's been serving and promoting the independence of developmentally disabled local citizens since 1952. Gallery 7-9-6 is a division of ARC School of Hope - it's an art program that assists disabled enrollees in creating, exhibiting and selling their artwork. ARC School of Hope is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, and donations are gratefully welcomed with a receipt for your tax records. If you have any late holiday gift-giving or decorating needs, consider purchasing one of the many creative artworks exhibited and sold at the site - the purchase price of each piece sold goes directly to the disabled artist who created it - there are many unique paintings and sculptures to choose from! Also, if you're clearing closet space this New Year, donations of still usable art supplies and tools can help these artists continue creating their artwork into the next year. ARC School of Hope, 796 East Sixth Street, San Bernardino, CA 92410. Hours: M-F, 9am - 3:30 pm (closed major holidays), (909) 884-6484.
The Margaret Clarke Art Education Endowment Fund (MCAEEF), established by the Redlands Art Association (RAA), is also a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, that provides scholarships to RAA art classes, helps provide children's art classes at the art center; scholarships, awards and grants for high school art departments in the local area; the Art in Public Schools Project, and grants to individual artists. A donation to MCAEEF will help ensure arts will continue to flourish in our community. As Picasso's quote on the outside of the RAA building reminds us, 'Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life" and in my opinion, it helps keep communities happy, healthy and lovely for years to come. The RAA gallery features the artwork of many local artists, and is volunteer operated - open Mon - Sat, 10am - 5pm (closed Sun and major holidays), at 215 East State Street, Redlands, CA 92373. (909) 792-8435.
