First stop on our tour, is A Little Taste of the South.
Owner Mr. Hill, says he uses his family recipes passed down for over a hundred years; from the taste of it, they've stood the test of time well. The restaurant is on the area of land deeded back to Moreno Valley from March ARB. It's located across from the BX (that's base exchange), on the southeast corner of N and 4th streets.
Cactus Avenue and Graham/Riverside are the nearest large cross streets. From the 215 freeway, take the Cactus Ave/March ARB exit. Head east on Cactus to Graham/Riverside Drive. Turn right and drive past the old base gates (no pass is required - the old guard shacks stand empty, though the AP's still patrol the area, keeping it safe). Turn left on 'N' Street. A Taste of the South will be on your right, on the southeast corner across from the BX.
Here are some pictures of what we had (click on the picture to see it enlarged).
We enjoyed every last bite (though we had to take some of it home to finish!) This isn't a place for dieting, even though there are salads on the menu - it's hard to resist that BBQ aroma (and I fell off the veggie wagon big time here. It was just too close to my grandma's cooking to resist).
True southern hospitality is served here, with friendly staff and real home cooking. Though the menu advises diners that this ISN'T fast food, that there may be a waiting time of 10 to 20 minutes or possibly longer for certain dishes - we were served within ten minutes.
Here's the current menu (menus, prices, hours and other information given on this site may be subject to change - always check with the business itself to see about current availability). This blog reflects my own experiences at these businesses - if I feature them, I liked 'em. I'm not responsible for anyone else's experience. Also, my directions are given just for readers to get a feel for the area - for real directions on how to get there, go see Mapquest or your favorite driving map program!
Hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 am to 7 pm. Sundays the restaurant is reserved for parties and other special events. They also offer catering services.
Telephone number (as of this writing): (951) 656-7638.
