You know the song from Rent? Where they measure the number of minutes in a year? Well, for some strange reason, possibly having to do with someone who's a VIP in my life, I found myself counting up the number of hours in a year - 8,760 is what I came up with, in case you're not as OCD as me! Feel free to check my math - it's not necessarily my strong suit!
Well I've known this VIP for 253,254 hours, now (actually, we were pretty intimate acquaintances for approximately 6,480 hours before I ever saw her face - the last 19 hours before first laying eyes on her, were possibly the most suspenseful moments of my life!)
Everyone from Finslippy to Breed 'em & Weep has been posting their birthing stories the last couple of days (which were actually pretty darn entertaining - a lot more fun reading about it than living thru it!), so I won't go into that whole 19 hours of labor play-by-play. It suffices to say the following 253,254 hours with her, have been a heck of a lot more fun! Happy Birthday, Sweetie!
She's turned out to be one amazingly well-adjusted, mature, successful, creative human being - the first one of my two very best works of art! (and yes, raising children IS an art, not a science! The experiment can't be repeated in the laboratory!) Not that I can take all the credit for the wonderful human beings that resulted from my tinkering...These masterpieces are the result of a whole lot of collaboration - especially since the subjects took over the process at some point along the way and began creating themselves...that's the part where I got really lucky!
Wishing all of you who are just starting out with your new creations as much love & fun & good luck as my collaborators and I have had!
I am glad that mine turned out as pieces of art and not something else...
I like the way you describe it, the raising of kids, that is.
