This week's Sunday Scribblings writing prompt is Shoes. (Click on the Sunday Scribblings link to see everyone else's scribblings about shoes- and our previous topics - I believe this is the sixth theme the group has written on and there have been some really great ones! It's still open to new writers, if you'd like to join us.)
I Got Those "Baby Needs a New Pair O'Shoes" Blues*Incantations to the four fickle Fates,
those fashion goddesses of attired feet,
Gucci, Ecco, Nike, Ferragamo's:
Clothe our dogs in clogs or jellies;
Sandals, slippers, mules,
espadrilles or wedgies;
high-heels, open-toes,
pointy-toe stilettos.
boaters, deck shoes, runner's, high-tops,
ankle-straps, backless flip-flops
oxfords, loafers (with & without pennies)
flats, boots, skates, trainers, tenniesI went to the ball with my dancing shoes on,
but someone with two left feet,
stepped on my blue suede shoes,
made me afraid I might fall
and made me lose the beat;
so I changed to my glass slippers -
then lost one leaving the ball.
I ran home in my reebok's
(princess running shoes),
to put on my boots and go back,
'Cause these boots were made for walking
and that's just what they'll do...
hit the road running, jack.
One of these days, I'll come walking,
strutting, striding, stalking -
hiking, biking, jogging, skipping
tottering on stilettos without tripping
back to where I can dance and prance,
reeling to the feeling with romance -
let down my hair and kick up my heels
till I'm good and ready -
To click my heels 3 times and go home;
kick off my glittering ruby diamond shoes
and put my bunny slippers on.
(Please be gentle - as I told you on Thursday, Poetry & I are still trying to kiss & make-up!)
Fantastic ending. Love it!

Love how you incorporated references to the well-known shoe stories in your poem. Lovely!

Hey! You did that so well! Caught the range of everything to do with shoes. You and poetry go very well together - a natural couple! Well done!

My favorite of all my footwear are my moccasin-slippers. Snug and warm...

How funny -- how did you manage to think up all those old shoe & foot songs & sayings? It's like a cliche-fest -- in a good way!!
