The prompt this week for Poetry Thursday is to write about words you love or hate, or both. There are so many words I love, that I couldn't begin to think how to weave them all together into a poem - it would be a word salad, with alphabet soup on the side! And the words I hate? Frankly, I wouldn't want to give them the air time. Words have power I think, and I wouldn't want to give those words that added power by using them here, so that other's can Google them; giving them fuel to resonate around the world endlessly.
Feeling sapped by the heat and unsure what to do for today's prompt, I dropped on the couch, with the mail still in my hand, for some catnap inspiration. Had a very odd dream with an unexpected ending...woke up startled, and found the mail there beside me. Opened one of the envelopes and this little verse started to play in my head - about a word that I have both loved and hated at many different times in my life:
There is one word that
I've been happy when I bought it
(for another)
Startled when I've caught it
(from another)
Excited when other's brought it
Awed,
when I've least sought it.Though it comes in many
shapes and sizes,
there's one place where
it's almost always fun to
find it -
The ending is where I love
finding my surprises!
My thanks to PamAries (artist,sweetie-pie, and rescuer of Greyhounds), who inspired me with her amazing mail surprise! I had bemoaned not participating in the Junkmail swap from here, when I saw the lovely goodies this creative, fun lady received from it, and she remembered. Thank you Pam-a-lamb-a-ramHead - I loved this surprise SO much! It was much happier than my other mail surprise today - a jury duty summons. See what I mean? You don't know whether to love it or hate it - because you just never know what Surprise has in store for you!
hee..heeee .heee!! Boy, was that synchronicity or what? What a perfect poem!--Ya know, I cannot even begin to express how much our little group of 'artzies in cyberpace' has meant to me! The connection never ceases to amaze me ! Have a fabulous day/ it's hot and humid as Hades here too! Pam ARIES

What a terrific poem! Really well done. I love surprises - unless of course, they're bad. :)

I love the idea of a 'word salad'...what a wonderful metaphor.
