I haven't participated in Illustration Friday for awhile. Come to think of it - I haven't posted much art of any kind, lately. Where has the art in Tinker Art gone?
"Tinker Art - Now with 90 percent less art!"
So we're long overdue for some artwork. What the heck does this illo have to do with this week's Illustration Friday's topic, "Capture"?
This is a captured moment in time, that pretty much exists only in my head. A moment of tranquility, amidst the whirlwind of life. When I painted it (with acrylics, watercolor and gouache, for those of you playing along at home), it was with Him, in mind. A little sanctuary for him. That guy I caught quite a while back...whose birthday is today. The one who tries his best to live by this motto (basically, it's the only way for a Leo or any man, really, to survive when he marries into a family of women - especially when 2 out of the 3 are independent, "teetering on the raw, jagged edge of eccentric" - Aquarians, and the third one's a Scorpio):
Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
Robert Heinlein
I thought I was holding him captive - but after all that he's put up with from us crazy womenfolk over the years, he's really the one who captured my heart (sometimes, you just have to get a little schmaltzy). Here's to you Captain K, the Lion-Hearted. Long live the king! We'll try to postpone the next revolution till tomorrow. Let 'em eat cake.
Today is also Melba of Mixed Media Memoirs fame's birthday. Hope everything will just be wonderful for her birthday. (If you aren't familiar with Melba, she not only has put together a great weekly meme, Mixed Media Memoirs, where writing and art meet - but she's also making her dream come true: founding/organizing Just Be, a conference for creative women bloggers, in October of 2007).
Now, in my usual let's leave everything to the last minute way, I think I better go see what I can pull together for a birthday present. What do you get for the man who has everything (especially way more books, women and cats, than most men)? I don't think I can afford a private island, though that's probably what he's wishing for this year. Maybe we'll just go out and leave him to enjoy his sanctuary for awhile. Till the next revolutionary idea comes along anyway. It's not easy being king of this castle; head of this family. It's more than a little bit, like herding cats.
Happy Birthday to the Cat Whisperer.
Oh, sweetie! What a great tribute to that special guy on his big day! The painting is wonderful! You have such talent. Am off to wish Melba a bonne anniversaire as well.
