When I was a little, I couldn't wait to get up in the morning (I didn't want to go to bed at night, either!) I was thinking about what changed along the way. When did the wonder, mystery and excitement of a new day, a new chance to play, fade away? There are still some mornings when I can't wait to get up, and others when it's all I can do to force myself out of bed.
This morning I had a good reason to get out of bed - I had an idea for a drawing! I couldn't wait to get up, hunt around for my Caran d'ache Neocolors (which, by the way, Patry, is what I meant to recommend to you the other day - but Cray-pas is what came out of my typing fingers that day!) Cray-pas are fun, too, with the blending you can do - but the Caran d'ache Neocolor crayons have been my favorite toys for a long time now, when I just want to play.
You can draw and color with abandon.
(You can click on the thumbnail to see a larger version of what it looked like when it was in its crayon stage).
Here's what it looked like after about 15 minutes of coloring. Then, the really fun magic part is, you can go back over them with a wet paint brush and it turns into a watercolor, like this...
You can draw into the water with them, too, which is what I did for her shoes and eyes, and hair bow, and added a little more outlining color. But I only worked on it for a few more minutes, then just let it dry.
It was fun, and well worth getting up for this morning! I think mornings should be playtime. I'll work in the afternoon. Sort of like eating dessert first - life's short.
I'm grateful for waking up on a weekend morning to just color and play.
There are other people's Sunday Scribblings about 'morning' here, and you can find links to those who are doing Art Everyday Month at Kat's blog.
How inspiring to get up and draw something!
