Doing the can-can ;-) Can I do this? Can I do that? I better do whatever I can, while I can...
After spending hours last night and again today, just trying to get a connection to check my e-mails, let alone visit anyone, I thought I should post something new while I know I can - then visit whoever I can, while I can, afterward. Not sure what's going on with the router, since it's fairly new still. I tried resetting it a bajillion times, as well as plugging and unplugging the various cable connections and the splitter to the telephone - and a half dozen other things, too - because I get a little nutty with my wacky ideas about the wild world of electronics...which may very well run on the principles of medieval alchemy or tribal voodoo, as far as I know about it all. Maybe magical fairydust in the ether? Or gnomes! Perhaps there's a whole pantheon of electrical deities, with their own Mt. Olympus in Silicon Valley....Had I possibly offended the internet gods again in some way?
When dealing with stubborn, 'supposedly' inanimate objects and systems, I tend to turn towards animism...it's a behavioral trait that's been reinforced by numerous 'coincidences' through the years - the old cars that would only start when I would sweet-talk them into it. C'mon baby, you can do it - just try one more time for mama...
My antiquated Zenith 'portable' TV (portable - ha! The thing weighed as much as a volkswagon...) that would only turn on, after I would count down NASA-style, till blast-off...'Houston we have contact. Video coming in now...'
I'm not quite sure how I stumbled onto the idea today, that the router might not like its usual perch on the bookshelf, but I started trying it on different shelves - then the desk, the floor - and finally, on top of the scanner. Which it seems to like, for the moment, at least. My daughter just came through a minute ago, and asked me why the router was on top of the scanner, and I had to stop her from moving it - 'Wait - don't move it! It likes it there!"
It will work out fine, as long as I don't try to print, copy or scan anything while on the internet...
On a somewhat more logical note, I think it might be one of the cables. Especially since I have some feline friends who seem to fixate on long, skinny stringy things...as evidenced in Exhibit A, the photo above, where Lowly Worm scarf was suffering a cat attack. This photo also explains a lot about Lowly's zig-zagging lumpiness. I did finally finish it - well, mostly -- I'm just trying to decide whether adding fringe will add to or distract from the scarf's extreme funky qualities...it's mostly skinny, but it sort of 'flairs' out at either end - if by flair, you mean how it suddenly juts out at extreme angles like the fins on an Edsel.
I love it, nonetheless, and plan on wearing it, even if some people around here wonder if I'd actually dare to wear it out in public. They don't realize, that I have lived through the 60's and 70's. The times of foot-wide bellbottoms - maxis, minis and go-go boots, followed by sizzler skirts and hot pants that would barely fit a toddler - not to mention, gold polyester leisure suits and five-inch high wedgie heels. Though I tend now, to stick to simpler wear - sneakers, tees and jeans -- I think those early years of fashion extremes may have helped me develop a sort of immunity. All I have to do when putting on some slightly questionable item of apparel, is remind myself of some of my favorite things to wear in years past, back in the polyester age, and suddenly a wing-tipped scarf doesn't seem so bad...
Hmm, I seem to have gone off on a tangent here, and wandered far away from whatever point I was aiming towards - you can probably tell, I've been feeling a little isolated this week, with me talking your ear off like this...where was I going?
Ah! yes, a behind the scenes look at what's on the drawing board...
I've been working on some little bits and pieces of things that I'm trying to put together for a new look, for when I re-open my doors in bloglandia. I want to redecorate a little - the drapes here are looking sort of shabby, and not in a chic way, either.
This page shows a little of what I've had on the drawing board, working out some of the images that have been playing around in my mind over the past week or so. Just a quick look at my slow start at hatching some of them, to show I've been doing something creative. Pretty rough, but at least I'm creating something...I'm not exactly sure what yet, but I think they're starting to grow their little pinfeathers into wings, and hopefully at least one of them will soon be ready to fly...
Thank you so much for continuing to visit me these past couple of weeks, while I've been sorting things out around here. I do hope to have the doors open again soon, so that you won't have to continue with the secret knock and password at the door - I'm sorry about the hassle of those extra steps. Thank you, too, to all of you who've sent e-mails - I'm sorry I still haven't caught up on all of them yet, but I really do appreciate them so very much. I'll be by to visit, as time - and the router - allows.
It should only be a couple more days of this and then some things can come down, and others should be up and running, and the doors wide open for you - maybe even a catdoor for the creatures. Provided the router continues to like its living quarters...Like many people, I don't care much for closed doors myself. And like cats - and possibly routers, as well -- tinkerings and tinkerthings need lots of room to move around. So they can spread their wings and fly.
Though I hope the router sits still...
when I am having troubles I start talking to every sinle electronic and then miracles happen...
they know next a big thump of frustration will follow, LOL
they start functioning before I kick their cyber booty, LOL

"Perhaps there's a whole pantheon of electrical deities, with their own Mt. Olympus in Silicon Valley..."
From what I know of writing code for hardware, it's all true. And they hate me too.

Hey Tink,
Love your butterfly drawings!
I'm with you! When it comes to technology and cars, if they are working, they're just dreamy. When they don't, it is SO frustrating! Just read SPF magic chant. I'll have to give that one a try next time!

Edsel? LOL oh my, what a YOUGLEE thing that was! I did have some red velvet hot pants and white go go boots tho. (That's back when I had legs...lol) You're so funny, Mz. Tink. I too am into the jeans and tee style. Is there anything else?

I'm such a tech dummy that I'm surprised I can actually turn on the computer! I sure hope your problems are solved soon and you can move the router off the scanner!!
Love those butterflies!! And I don't mind the secret knock and password. Makes me feel kinda special!!

I woke up so early this morning...so I am bloggering heh heh. It is good to see you being all creative! My cable TVconnection went out and
i am leaving it off for a while. I am getting so many things done instead of watching Tv! Renting movies is fun.

Well some of the best computer people I've known were very, very intuitive - they just knew what to do or look for - but of course its frowned upon to admit to it...

Oh these computer problems are infuriating, aren't they? This afternoon I had to install a new modem (after all else failed) which for the moment at least, seems to be working. Love the new look of your blog and those butterflies! xoxox

I remember when I was a teen , I had a transitor radio that quit working , I threw it on the ground and it started working again.I guess Mother Earth gave it new energy.
Good Luck with your Computer.

Hi Tinker,
I remember reading this entry and I thought I left a comment but I don't see it? Oh well, I can't remember. I hope your computer problems are getting worked out. Hope you are having a good time at the drawingboard - sending you fun!
