I'm still here, even though I've been rather still on the internet this week. I'm still trying to get things cleared up around here, both virtually and in the real world sense. Sort of nesting...
The year of being Creative Every Day has begun, and while I haven't been posting this week, there still have been little moments of creativity around here. Most recently, while it's been windy and raining, mainly doing things that keep us warm while creating...
Whether it was baking a pineapple upside down cake - it somehow seems fitting that one of my favorite desserts would be backwards...
Or trying to remember/re-learn how to knit from a daughter who's been teaching herself how from you-tube videos when her mother can't remember how to do these things (yay, internet!).
Or trying to pretend I remember how to crochet, while making the world's skinniest, longest and lumpiest scarf - it's very wabi sabi and all zig-zaggy...sort of like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. Skimpy in some places, thick and lumpy in others. which somehow makes me love it - maybe because I know no one else will, lol.
Though I think mainly I just keep on with it, despite - or because of - its extreme wonkiness, while it keeps my hands occupied and my mind free to roam. Keeps my lap warm, too. That, and I've always wanted a long, skinny scarf of many colors, and I don't want to just buy one (not that there are any left after all the Christmas hullabaloo anyway), so I'm making one myself. I will love it and it will keep me warm - lumps, bumps and all. I just realized what - or who - it reminds me of: Lowly Worm, from Richard Scarry's books. That's what it is - it's my Lowly Worm scarf.
While listening to the rain splatting, and the java log crackling, I'm pretending to remember how to crochet, and imagineering - making lists, playing with words and pictures in my head. What I want my life to look like, in this upcoming second half century. What direction I want to go in, with this blogging thing. As well as which way I want to go with my life and my art - yada yada yada...
There are some images that I keep playing around with in my mind's eye... This week has felt like I've been gestating, and now I'm going through that last nesting phase, waiting for these images to be ready to be born. Maybe once I reach the end of this long and lowly scarf (ETA should be some time tonight, I think - in about another 12 - 18 inches, or whenever I run out of yarn - whichever comes first :) - I'll have a clearer picture of who or what this is, that's been waiting for me to bring it into the world.
At any rate, just thought I'd poke my head out and say 'Hi' - let you know we're all well. For the moment, I'm just hunkering down here - all cozy, warm and still in my little shell; weaving tiny tales in my head, and long, skinny scarves in my hands, waiting for something to hatch...
I love that lumpy, colouredy scarf, and this post - as always. Enjoy the hibernation - and the pineapple cake!

Lowly Worm in a submarine - that was one of my number one childhood images.
PS. Are you in a cardboard box full of shredded newspaper?

Oh man, I love pineapple upside down cake. It's been years since I've had any or made one. Hmmmm...I like Boston Cream Pie too. And chocolate chip Toll House Cookies. And lemon merangue pie. And chocolate silk pie and strawberry rhubarb pie, And, and...see what you started? And all I have in my fridge now is yogurt.

I think we're on the same page, deciding to be creative everyday. Even arranging a meal on a plate can be creative and artful! Love the scarf....my hands fall asleep when I crochet, I have carpal tunnel from years ago, otherwise that's what I would be doing! Very cozy post....hope you are getting to the bottom of the craziness!
I put in one wrong letter on blogspot....with happytiler and got a porn site....rrrr they are just waiting to pounce when we abandon these blogs. Very frustrating! Heaven forbid I should type the wrong address as I comment on a blog!
Looks like a very reflective New Year like mine!
Hugs Sherrie

Hi Tinker - just checking up on you. It sounds like you are warm and cozy. Enjoy the downtime - or at least time away from the internet.
Aren't lumpy wabi-sabi ziggy zaggy scarves the best kind! I love crochet and I'm glad you are using it to ponder your life and gestate. Take care

Your lowly worm scarf sounds fabulous! And I'm so glad you're taking time to figure out your next creative endeavours - can't wait to see what direction it all will take. No doubt, whatever you come up with will be fascinating and magical, with lots of humour thrown in for good measure. xoxox

Pineapple upside down cake is a favorite around our house. I sure wish I lived closer....I would come crochet with you. I love your lumpy scarf! And I too have been doing a lot of thinking about creativity. I'm thoroughly enjoying this Creative Every Day challenge....mostly because it's so broad and encompassing.

I love the lowly worm scarf, you'll get great satisfaction of making it and then wearing it.
My mom used to make Pineapple Upside down cake but I have not had it in years. It looks yummy.
I too like doing the creative everyday thing. Although yesterday I creatively sat on the couch having a creative sick day.

Hey Tinker,
Happy New Year!!
Thanks for the secret password reminder! ;~)
YES to being creative all year, every day! Creativity can be part of life, even if our hands can't find time. It can even be applied to how we deal with people. Creative people make life more FUN!
Pineapple upside down cake is one of the best cakes on the planet. Lucky YOU!
~Thanks for getting in touch and letting me know you needed the password again, Constance - I hope you won't need it much longer, though - gotta get these doors open again soon!~tink
