Gosh, I never meant to play hooky so long. Are we really into the second week of March, already?Where did February go?
Apparently, it went flying by in a flurry of packing paper and boxes, by day - and skeins of yarn, by night, as I tried to hook up all of the ladies, senior and junior, in our core family with matching scarves to help link us together. All by the time the youngest branch of the family tree uprooted and transplanted to the northwest.
At least, that was the goal I set, anyway - and whew, I met it (mostly...finished up my own when they were on their way). The photos I took of them wearing the scarves don't show the colors very well, so here's Pete the panda, modelling mine for me. The light still doesn't show all the variegated colors in it very well - Barrington -Lion Brand Homespun - but close enough...so just imagine this one, five times over. Oh well, here's a couple more of them, anyway...
Also, I finally put the finishing touches on the grandbaby's blanket (used Bernat Cottontots - which I really love - and no, unfortunately no one's paying me to promote any of these yarns, just providing the brands, in case anyone's curious). A project that was long overdue, since I'd first started hooking it months ago, while she was still incubating (the baby, that is - not the hedgehog pictured here). I couldn't get a really good photo of the exact shade of lavender - not as blue as top one, not as pink as the photo below -- it's somewhere in between the two....
This was my first attempt at crocheting flowers and though these were a little wobbly, after many attempts at them (and much grumbling whilst unravelling), I decided these were good enough for grandmother-ment work, and just tied them on. Finished the blanket just in time to pack it up to go riding up north with their granddad, who was taking their other car up to them. I had so much wanted to be the one going on that trip as we'd planned, but when the time came, I had come down with a nasty cold, and I finally had to concede, it just wasn't practical. Aw, well...I will get up there to visit, a little later.
So in between reaching for the tissues, I took consolation in hooking a skinny scarf just for me. Then, because I was cold and still had some yarn left, I decided to try hooking a matching head scarf. Since I still have a hard time making heads or tails out of patterns, all of these things were just made up out of my head. I really have no clearcut idea what I'm doing with all this yarn still - just dreaming things up, trying to connect the pictures in my head to the yarn in my hands, hoping it all comes together into something worthwhile in the end. Kind of like Life...
There's been lots more going on that I've wanted to share - cooking (our Marshmallow Mermaid Pie bake-off - and a new kitchen science experiment) and books too (reading a good one - and won another good one too - woo-hoo!). And the garden, of course (the peas are blossoming - and the daffodils are up!) - but this post has run on long enough. I'll share more details here, a little at a time. Really! Cross my heart. I won't play hooky for another month. It feels good to hook up here again.
Yea! It's good to see you back. I knew you were probably busy with your family. I love the idea of everyone having the same scarf to wear no matter where they are. Keeps you all connected.
